3 Cows came stampeding past...
...the first thing we knew was a woman came charging through the school security gates a meter in front of us shrieking. Maybe we would've stepped into their path had she not done this. She had left her bike in the road and legged it! The cows were then chased by a small boy, obviously trying to retrieve them. Guards, lady, stall keepers, us-all shrieking with laughter. No doubt the small boy wasn't laughing. He'd also lost his flip flops.
Another teacher had fended off a billy goat attack this past week too. She had the presence of mind for a matador approach and used her jacket to side step. He came round for another butt and she shrieked for some local security guards to help her. The billy was wrestled off somewhere and the security guards now consider her worthy of the full morning dialogue.
We say hello to everyone. It is considered good manners and recognises that you are in the same space at the same time sharing an experience. Cafe, hello. Shop, hello. Park, hello. Bank, hello. When you start recognising the same people, the hello extends and you ask each other how you are. We are now extended with all our regular security guards. Shortly, we are going veg shopping. The veg shop lady hello is becoming extended. Not quite on first name terms yet. Pre covid, there were also hand slaps and head tapping gestures which are presently suspended.
I remember from past experience that seemingly small acts can be overwhelmingly difficult. I am glad of the experience that tells us to go slow and not try to do everything at once. So, we have needed some eggs. You buy your eggs from an egg seller. Where is the egg man? has been a Beatles sounding mantra from Luke, in French, all week. Luke is thrilled with his infantile French and I have been seeking tell of the egg man in order that the song stops. We achieved our goal this morning but now need to find a post office. Hah! Make a song out of that in French Mr. P!
I have made the decision personally not to blog about work. It can get too complicated with the work/home connections as these tend to be magnified in this situation. Everything overlaps. I can however write that all the signs are that we are going to love the school. Super nice students and a friendly, supportive atmosphere. There will be ups and downs as always and that is why I am just going to generalise and stay away from work politics!
I'm not a photo taker. I notice odd stuff, which doesn't translate into what people have been asking for! I also don't tend to carry my phone often. Here are some odd stuff images from this morning, shapes and patterns, on the way to the egg man. Which is exactly why I have asked Luke to do loads of images in his blogs...
